Welcome back from Spring Break! Before we go into the weeks plan, lets talk about grades from the 3rd quarter. The grades that you see in iNow are the grades that the students will have on their report cards that come out later this week. They are significantly lower than in previous quarters. The main reason for this is simply a lack of concern. Many times I would assign work and many of the students simply would not do it. This will change in this 9 weeks and that will be due to students having projects.
For the first three quarters, these students have learned different methods of accomplishing their art. In these projects they will begin to use all of those methods and they have free range to do so. If they wish to use just pencil, they may, but they can also use Conte Crayon, Charcoal, ink wash, or paint. If they have other methods that they have learned, such as pen, they may also use that.
The way this will work is that I will given them the assignment based off of a phrase or word. The students may interpret the meaning in however they wish. I suspect that most will use a more direct interpretation, but some will take the ideas further. I will assign projects at the beginning of the week and the project is due by the end of the week. The students may work on the project outside of class, but they must do work in class as well. To assure this, I will be giving two grades each week, one for the project and one for their daily efforts.
I will reveal the first project tomorrow along with several directions that they could go with. If you have any questions, please contact me.
