Hey all. This week, we are going to attempt to draw some anime. I've never done it myself, so it should be an adventure. I think it will be a lot of speed lines and exaggerated expressions.

Hey everyone, we are going to go back to one of my favorites this week and work in color pencil. I want to assess how far along the students have come with their actual drawing skills. After doing Conte Crayon, which I saw vast improvement in many of the drawings, I like to if they can apply their new understanding of shape, contour, and shadow to their drawings in pencil and color pencil.
Ya'll, we are finally changing to a new medium this week. We will be working with Conte Crayon. Conte is an old medium used by artists going back to 1795. It has the advantage of being fairly cheap to produce, so a standard matchbox set of four (black, white, terracotta and sanguine) only costs around $5.00. We will be working on Mi-Tientes paper which comes in assorted colors. Artists often use the medium to work out light and shadow before committing to final project, whether that be a sculpture or maybe an oil painting. We will start with basic shadow and light and we will end with a larger still life. This is a short week, but we are going to try to get some work in that is meaningful and I think nature is a good place to start. We are going to draw trees, mountains and clouds this week and I'm going to do this step by step on our overhead and have students follow along. There is very few things more relaxing that drawing bits of nature, especially since it's always such a good model...mountains and trees don't move much...clouds however can't keep still.
