Hey all. This is the final official week for getting makeup work turned in. For those of you trying to receive honors, all work must be turned in by the 12th. We have the final checkpoint (Checkpoint 4) on the 11th. Anyone who creates a Quizlet or Blooket will need to let me know so that I can share with the other classes. I will be packing my room out this week, so I will be fairly busy throughout the day, but I will also make time to grade your makeup work. I will likely clear my turn in box to make that task a bit easier. Field Day for 8th grade will be in the morning on the 9th and will be in homeroom for the rest of the day.

Hey all! This week is all about finishing the year up and looking forward to the next. You will start the week with your last daily grade assignment on the Incan civilization. This assignment needs to be completed as soon as possible for grading expediency. On Tuesday, 8th graders will be walking up to the high school for a tour. The tour will last for about the length of our first period. The rest of that day will be for finishing any work left unfinished up to this point...you'll notice a trend going forward for the rest of the school year. The Biscuit's game is on Wednesday and I will on the trip, so students in my class will be breaking out and continuing to do make up work. I will give students an outline for the upcoming Checkpoint 4 that will wrap the year up on tests. Friday will also be a day of makeup work.
Hey all! Research papers are due by 11:59pm on Monday. Any papers turned in after this date will be considered late and will incur a 10 point penalty for each day the paper is late down to a 50%. The paper is graded first by the rubric and then the points are taken off for the late fee, so a paper that has passed the last day of penalty points will start at 50%, not end there. We have an activity on the Crusades on Tuesday and I will be out for the last half of the day for official school business. We will begin notes for the Americas on Wednesday, followed by an activity on the subject for Thursday. Friday will be for the make-up work that needs to be turned in ASAP because May is short and the last day of school is now only a month away.
Hey all! This week is very important for multiple reasons. First, we will finish our notes for Medieval Europe on Monday and review for the test that we will take on Wednesday. Normally the test would be on Thursday, but the STAR test is being given that day and students will be in homeroom for much of the day followed by a modified schedule that will be made on that day. I plan to create the turn-in assignment for the paper on Wednesday, but we will dedicate the majority of our week to the research paper.
Parents, please help me press the importance of turning in the research paper. I have already had multiple students inform me that they are thinking about just not submitting a paper. This would result in a zero and would bring their grades down significantly. A zero for a test grade on this quarter would cost a student 17 points on their final grade for the quarter, which is more that a letter and a half penalty (a student with an average of 80% would drop to a 63%. A student with an average of 65% would drop to a 48%). None of them would want this, but there are many who honestly cannot afford a grade drop that low without failing the 8th grade. This would be a great time to remind parents that summer school is back to being a paid program now. The cost is $250 per course failed...may the odds be ever in your favor. Hey all, welcome to another week of ACAP testing. We will be testing for ELA on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will get back to notes for Chapter 15. On Thursday, you will work on an assignment for Feudalism. On Friday, you will, or should be, writing your research paper. We are past the time for a lot of research and you should be on to the writing phase of the paper.
Hey all! Just a few things. We will start the week off by writing the DBQ Essay (the last one of the year!). We will cover chapter 15 notes on Tuesday (The Crusades!). ACAP will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and though we do not have a schedule just yet, I would expect it to be heavily modified. I highly encourage that any time that you have in my class be used to complete your research paper/project. You are off on Friday for a teacher workday. See you tomorrow!
Hey all! I hope that you had a great break. It is time to get back to the work at hand and your research paper due date is right around the corner (April 24th). This week in World History, we are going to start by taking a look at Medieval European society. On Tuesday, you will be writing your essay on how Christianity took hold in the ancient world. This is your last DBQ essay for the year. On Wednesday, you will create a family crest! This has always been a fun project in the past and I hope that you will enjoy it this year as well. We will dive back into the notes on Thursday, but will probably only complete about half of the notes on that day so that I can give you a bit more time on your family crest. Friday will be a research day and an important one because it is one of the very last research days that I can give you considering the upcoming ACAP testing period. Take them serious and use your time wisely.
Hey all! This week in world history, we're going to start the new 9 weeks by focusing on the last one. You will have this final day in class to work on any work that you are missing. The last day that I can take any work for the 3rd quarter is on Tuesday, March 14th. On Tuesday, we will finish any notes from the first section of Medieval Europe. After those are finished, we will begin work on the DBQ for this quarter and and answer the question of why Christianity took hold in Medieval Europe. This work will continue until Thursday when we will work on a map of Europe. Friday is technically a research day, but if you need to finish the DBQ or the Map on this day, you may. This will of course lead us into Spring Break.
Hey all! This week in world history, we are going to dip our historical toes into Medieval Europe. This is a rather long unit, so buckle in for about 3-4 weeks of material and this is also where most of your classwork will come from (daily grades and one test grade). Monday will be a make up work day. Many of you have not turned work in for the Empires of Africa and many of you have still not completed the "Spread of Christianity" from the week before. This is obviously unsatisfactory. You will not be given a grace period in high school, so do not expect one from me. This next 9 weeks is fast and demanding and includes your research paper/project.
On Tuesday, we will start on our notes on the early middle ages and especially on Charlemagne who is considered to be the father of Europe. The counselors from the high school are supposed to be here on Tuesday as well to talk to the 8th grade class about preparing for 9th grade. These plans could change, so we will tell you if that is happening or not when we know. On Wednesday, you have the Checkpoint 3 test. Remember that the study guide is located on Google Classroom. There are also a couple of students who are currently working on study materials, but I highly recommend creating your own as well. Pretend like you are the teacher and getting ready to teach the subject and I promise you will do well. On Thursday, Mrs. Miller will teach you about feudalism in Europe. I expect everyone to be on their best behavior for her. Be respectful of the process that it takes to become a teacher because it is not an easy one. Friday will be another day for research. See you soon. Hey all! We are going to start this week by working on a map of the African continent. This should take the better part of Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will have an activity on the African Empires. On Thursday, we will review for the upcoming Checkpoint test that will take place next week. I have not confirmed a date with my fellow history teachers just yet, but when I know, you will know. Any time that is left over will be used to complete unfinished work. Friday will be a research day!
Parents, please be aware that the research papers and projects are due on April 24th and students were given this assignment in late January. We are also only two weeks away from the end of the 9 weeks. Once we get to the 4th quarter, time will feel very sped up due to the amount of activities that your students will have. Please help us to keep them on task and aware of the time schedule that they are on. Thank you! |
