In World History this week, we will continue our conversation on Egypt with a focus on the Old Kingdom along with the Egyptian Gods, followed by the Egyptian empires and we will wrap it up with the Kingdom of Kush. Right now, I plan on having our next test on September 6th and I will do a remind message on that as well. Early in the year, the grand majority of students are doing well, but I I encourage parents to keep up the stress on education at home, as well as stressing doing the work when the work is due. There is a trend right now, especially in my 4th period class, to not complete all of the work. If you look at my grade book in iNow and your student has a zero for a grade, it just means that they have not turned that assignment in or they have not taken a test if it is a test grade where the zero is concerned. I do this so that I can see their average and know that something is off and I find that it alerts parents as well. When I left blanks in those spaces last year, many parents and students gained a false impression of their students current grades.

First and foremost for this week will be our Chapter 1 Test on Tuesday (the 23rd). Be sure to look over your notes that we reviewed on Thursday. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we will continue our analysis of the Code of Hammurabi. Wednesday will be our day to write our essay on the reading. Thursday and Friday will be two days of taking our first look at Egypt and how that civilization changed mankind. On a side note, parents, please be sure to keep your student is aware of their absences and what work they may have missed while out. If you look at iNow, you may see a zero for a grade in my grade book even if your child was not present on the day of the assignment. I use the zero so that the parents are noticing if their child is failing or not. If I use an empty space, students and parents may have a false feeling that they are doing great in the class...only to have that feeling taken away at the end of the 9 weeks when the zeros are in those blank spaces. I will do what I can to keep your students up to date on their work, but they also have some responsibility to do that same. Thank you!
Hello students and parents! This week we will continue our look at our first ancient civilizations. We will finish our conversation about Mesopotamia and work our way into Babylon. We will also begin our writing assignment on the Code of Hammurabi...if you think our laws are strict now, you've never been accused of knocking a hole in someone's wall that fell in and killed the owner, then hung to death in that same hole...that's pretty metal. Also, we will review for our first test on Thursday and will have that test the following Tuesday. Remember to keep an eye out for Remind 101 messages about those tests.
Welcome back for all of those who have had a class with me in the past and just a plain welcome to those new. This week will concentrate mostly on getting to know each other, rules and procedures, and of course the dreaded paper work part of coming back to school. By the end of the week, we will begin covering the subject of early man with the possibility of a first grade in the book. The syllabus for the class is also in this post, so go ahead a get familiar with it. |
