Dear home slices, this week in world history we are going to finish up our notes on the Byzantine Empire and Christianity on Monday and Tuesday as well as finish up the Spread of Christianity assignment. Wednesday and Thursday will be research days! There will be an assignment for those two days on your research, so be ready for that as well...it will basically be proof of research to make sure you're not just playing Cool Math. Friday will be for Career Prep.
Hey all, before I start this...just a heads up about the weather situation. As of this post, forecasters are calling for ice accumulation in my area. I have to cross at least 6 bridges to get to work each day, so my presence in class for Monday and probably Tuesday will be determined by the weather. In the event that I am not there, Career prep will be the go to on classwork and for anyone absent due to COVID or weather if we have an eLearning day (highly doubtful we would do that considering power outages being a key issue in an ice storm).
Okay, that said...this week we will start with notes on the Byzantine Empire as well as Christianity. There is an activity for us to do on Christianity on Tuesday after we watch an episode of "The Bible". For parents who were not following this blog in the first semester, this Documentary is very neutral in it's stance on religion is only telling the story from the actual Christian cannon and is not an effort to convert in any kind of form. On Wednesday we will have a research day, so bring any materials and research that you currently have. Thursday we will complete a few more notes followed by time to finish up the activity on Christianity. Friday will be for Career Prep, but this could end up being pushed out if I am not at school on Monday, Tuesday or both. This week in World History, we are going to start by beginning our notes for the Byzantine Empire and Christianity. We will also finish up our DBQ. On Tuesday, we will be taking our Unit 2 Section 4 test on the Roman Empire. Wednesday will be a eLearning day and you will be working on career prep...congrats to those who have finished that. On Thursday, you will be writing your essay for the DBQ and we will of course wrap the week up with career prep on Friday.
Parents, I know that it seems like a lot of Career Prep, but if the students do not finish the course in 8th grade, they will have to take it again via credit recovery (a paid course like summer school) at the high school in their freshman year. I try to push it as much as possible, but I can only do so much. They are free to work on career prep at anytime, so school is not their only chance. Also, parents, we are now coming up on our lessons about the two major religions that I am often questioned about more than any other...Christianity and Islam. With both religions, they are taught from a very neutral approach. There is no preaching or proselytizing. They simply learn where both religions come from and what they both believe and why they are both important in world history. It would be very hard to explain Medieval Europe or pretty much any Western civilization going forward without doing so. If you do have any questions or concerns, please let me know. |
