This week in World History, we will begin our look at Ancient India by examining the current state of their society and moving back to a time when they were ruled by the Aryans. We will examine ideas of religion and polytheism, as well as basic infrastructure ideas like sanitation. We will also be conducting image analysis for the first time this year. We will examine several images and break them down per group, then have the groups discuss their images with the class.

This week, we will continue our look at the ancient Israelite people as well as study the geography of the area. We are also going to introduce a new lesson that we are going to try and include throughout the course this year and that is a look at what is happening with this group of people and their civilization now. Each Chapter will contain at least one of these lessons and the goal is to bridge the gap between the past and present for a better understanding of why we teach and learn history. Also this week, we will review for our Chapter 3 test. The review will be on Tuesday and the test will take place on Thursday. There is a possible interruption with my 5th period class this week on Thursday as this is homecoming week at MMS and our pep rally will take place during that period. There is a possibility of 5th period taking the test on Friday.
Parents, there has been some concern expressed by a few students with grades on the progress reports that are going home today. I just want to clear up how I put grades into iNow. When ever a student does not turn an assignment in or is absent for an assignment, I automatically post their grade as a zero. The reason for this is simple and has been effective over the years. If I do not turn a grade in for an assignment or test, the assignment is left blank and does not factor into the student's average. This often creates a false sense of security to the parent and student. Many students will not come to me to make up an assignment because they are happy with the grade that is showing up in iNow and parents generally assume that the assignment has just not been graded yet. I put the zero in so that the student will come to me and the parent will light a fire under the student to come to me and correct that situation.
