Short and to the point for the week! We are going to spend a lot of time working on missing work, tests not taken and our study guide. Each student is given an exam study guide to complete, even if the student is exempt from exams. The study guide will be counted as a daily grade. Your first thought might be "but why would my child be required to work on the study guide if they are exempt?". You're not alone! Most parents ask about this and here is the reason. When students are exempt from an exam, they sometimes lose focus and that often leads to behavioral issues. Those behavioral issues sometimes cause them to get into trouble and that also means that their exempt status goes away and if they do not have a study guide, they are blind to the exam. Also, when all students are required to do the work, there is a less likely chance that students are disrupted. Study guides for exempt students are to be handed in before they leave school for the last time before summer break. Students who are taking the exam will hand them on the day of their exam. I will have print outs of the study guide out to the students on Monday. You may also view it below if you would like your child to get a head start.
Parents, as we approach the end of this school year the students will begin to feel more pressure and those who have not turned in all of their work will need to be reminded to do so. I allow just about all assignments in this last 9 weeks to be turned in late. Please encourage your student or students to be diligent about turning in work. As of right now, all grades for my classes are 100% accurate and turned in. The only exception would be work sent to me from ECAP. I've had several questions about the zeros that some students have even when the student was not present that day. Most of you know this, but I will repeat it for those of you who did not know about it. I give a zero when an assignment is not turned in, regardless of the reason. I do this for the benefit of all parties involved. If I leave the grade blank, the student, parent and often myself are lulled into the belief that the student has a better grade than they actually do and if I waited until the end of the 9 weeks to put the zero in, we would be rushing around trying to get that grade completed.
As for this week, I will not be at the school on Monday. The students have an assignment that is directly from the book. On Tuesday, we have our test for chapter 16. On Wednesday, we will begin taking a look at the Renaissance movement in Europe. We will not be testing on this chapter, but we will learn about it and go over it quite extensively throughout the rest of the week. Friday will be used as a makeup day for students who need to complete work. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this time I am providing for them. |
