This week in World History, we will begin our section on our earliest religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and others. First, however, we will go over our last test and talk about where they got it right and where they got it wrong. The first test was difficult, but now the students know what they're facing. There were a lot of good grades, but there were also some grades that could certainly be better. We will be looking at Hinduism, Buddhism and ancient Egyptian religions tomorrow, followed by Judaism on Tuesday as well as a review for our next test which is on Friday. On Wednesday, we will be watching an episode of "The Bible" which does a really good job of presenting our monotheistic religions and is accompanied by a follow along worksheet. On Thursday, we will work on another activity for Judaism and on Friday, we will have our test on Sections 4 and 5.

This week in World History we will start by finishing our Code of Hammurabi documents followed shortly by our writing assignment from the same set of documents. On Tuesday we will have our first test. The test will contain short answer, matching and one essay question. On Wednesday, we will start our notes on Egypt and Mesopotamia followed by a tour of Egypt assignment. On Thursday, we will finish our notes up and on Friday, we will watch a documentary about Ancient Mesopotamia accompanied by a worksheet based off of the documentary.
Hey everybody! I think my classes are now set in stone now. We are sorry for all of the confusion, but these were just growing pains and we think you'll be happy with the overall changes. This week in World History, we will take a look at how early man lived and died and quickly move on to our first civilizations along the banks of rivers like the Nile, Indus, Tigris & Euphrates and of course China's Yangtze and Yellow rivers as a basic view of how their kingship's were set up. There are several activities planned, including "cave painting" and a great look at the Code of Hammurabi and we will find out if his laws were just! Finally, we will discuss their upcoming test slated for next week and how to study for that.
Welcome back to school! This week in World History we will introduce the class by introducing ourselves and getting to know the classroom rules and especially the expectations for the class. As you know, we have moved to a new way of doing things concerning History and Science. Students will only have one semester of each, so things will move pretty fast between the two classes. With that in mind, I will most likely get started quickly on Wednesday, so all students need to have their supplies for class! My supply list is famously easy, so here it is: paper, three ring binder, pen or pencils and color pencils. If you were not at our Open House, I told parents that I treat the class a lot like a college class as far as notes and responsibility goes. We will have tests about every other week and our tests will have essay questions as well as some matching, fill in the blank or multiple choice. Please speak to your student about how important it is to start this year off right. Explain to them, just like we will, that if they fail a science or history class that they cannot simply drop an elective and take it over. They will have to attend Summer School. We will harp on this multiple times this year to make sure the point is understood and any help that we can get from parents will make the point that much more driven home. Sorry for the doom and gloom early on, but we want to make sure that we have a positive start to the new year. With that said, on Wednesday we will hit the ground running with notes on the historical process which is about the many professions and disciplines in social studies. We will follow that up by talking about the origins of early man. I hope we have a great school year and I can't wait to get started!
