With that out of the way, the next several weeks ahead of us are fraught with strange breaks in the action because of the Global Scholar test which starts next week. With that in mind, we will charge pretty hard into the Byzantine Empire and try to get as much done as we can on notes, activities, research for your papers and we will take our history tests where we can fit them in. On Monday, we will work on notes for Christianity and the Byzantine Empire. On Tuesday, we will begin an activity for the Spread of Christianity. On Wednesday, you will do some in class research on your papers, so bring your smart devices to class please. I will try to place a couple of students on my computers in class as well, but since all of the Library computers and lab computers will be used for the Global Scholar test, we will have to make it work...remember that this is the reason we allow to use your phones and tablets to begin with. On Thursday, we will continue our notes as well as make time to finish the activity on the Byzantine Empire. On Friday, we will watch a documentary on the Byzantine Empire as well as work on an accompanying activity. Can't wait to see you lovely people in class!
Welcome back! Okay, before we get into this week's activities and lessons, lets talk about that last test...it was disappointing to say the least. I will of course go over my notes and test and see what I can change in the future, but I have some major concerns going forward. You have to study in this class. It was very apparent that many students did not bother to look at their notes before taking this test. I designed this class around honors students in mind...students who by taking honors classes are telling teachers, parents and themselves that they are planning on going to college and while college may be 4 years away, you can not start your preparations early enough for the begging of that wonderful but difficult challenge. Before I started teaching history, I asked several of my college history professors who taught Freshmen and Sophomore classes what their biggest problems were with their students. They were brutally honest with their answers. They informed me that students did not come into college with the proper work ethics in the areas of study habits or writing. These are two ares that I have worked hard on to impart to you. On this last test, I had several high A's and B's and quite a few C's, but I also had some VERY low F's. The county does not allow us to retest those students and they have also done away with the policy of allowing students to retake the test and average the two grades...a policy I never took part in anyhow. Going forward, those students who scored low need to understand how important it is for them to study. I can not stress this point anymore than that grade staring you in the face.

Hey all! So we have officially reached the last 9 weeks of your Jr. High years! Things will move fast, including our class, so making sure that work is turned in is a priority. Tomorrow we will have our paper topic draft. Each student will be given a Popsicle stick with a number on it. They were asked to pick three topics that they were interested in writing a paper about and hopefully one of those will be available when we finally get to their number. We are also going to finish up our notes on The Roman Empire and take the test on Thursday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be working on the Fall of the Roman Republic DBQ. On Friday, we will begin out look at Christianity by watching the first Christian episode of the Bible series.
Hey all! Grades have been posted for the 9 weeks and report cards will go out later this week! This week in World History we will start the week off by having our career day. There will be guest speakers in many classes, but in my class I will discuss the military option! My experience was fantastic with the military and the educational benefits given by all 5 branches of our military (not adding Space Force just yet). We discus career opportunities in the military as well as the overall maturation that takes place for military members during their time served. We will watch a video as well that documents young sailors as they go through bootcamp! This video has been a huge success in past. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will start our notes on the Roman Empire. On Thursday, we will take a look back and Roman Emperors. On Friday, we will look at the unfortunate people of Pompeii who were trapped when Mount Vesuvius erupted.
Hey all! This week in World History we will be taking our midterm exam. Many of the students will be exempt but will still receive the information for the test. We will begin our look at the Roman Empire on Friday!
