This week in world history, we will take a further look into Roman Civilization and how Pompeii was so well preserved from the total destruction of Mount Vesuvius. We will also take our chapter 9 test on Thursday and that should have us caught up from our 2018 snowpocalypse. On Friday, we will finish out with a primary source document reading on the continuation of the Roman Empire in the Near East by way of Constantinople and Greece.

Welcome back....again. Our schedule becomes much more difficult now that weather days have taken up a full week and one test day, so we will do our best to get through the rest of the quarter and still meet all of the requirements set forth by the BOE as far as tests and daily grades are concerned. 1st and 2nd periods will be making work up while watching a documentary. 4th and 5th periods will finish out Chapter 8 notes and our test review. We will test on Tuesday (Jan 23rd) and move on to Chapter 9 on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be work days to get our daily grades caught up. There are two grades waiting to be graded and put into our grade book now and should be in by late Tuesday.
This week will explore Rome's failing as a republic and rise as an empire. Our first test will be on Thursday and will be a standard multiple choice test. We will continue with our #projectattack and with our current article about current day Rome dealing with a rock concert based on the infamous Nero who watched Rome burned while he played his musical instrument from the rooftop of the palace. I also strongly encourage you to check up on your student as we are now on the downhill side of the school year and this where many students become complacent. I had several students in the last nine weeks score much lower than they did on the first nine weeks simply because they felt like they had done so well on that first 9 weeks that they could let go a bit.
Welcome back from the holiday break! We will hit the ground running with Rome! We will begin by examining how Rome became...well, Rome. Also, what does "Rome" mean? Is it a country or just a city state that loosely controls the Italian peninsula? Report cards will be handed out and there is a lot of disappointment to go around. Grades fell off in most classes by 10% at least and that is a full letter grade. At least half of the people who took the exam failed it. With the exception of 5 questions, the exam was the same as last year's, a test in which only four students failed. The main reason for this year's letdown scores was a simple lack of effort and horrible study habits. We will try to rectify that situation going forward though by teaching you how to study. I have mentioned how, but I've never really shown you, so that will be my personal task these two 9 weeks. Remember, high school awaits and the road only gets tougher there.
