Hey all! So, we have a strange week ahead of us due to the mere possibility of snow. While Millbrook may not get snow, I live 65 miles northwest of the schoolhouse and we are expecting some and that may prevent me from being at the school on Tuesday. That being said, I have a plan in case of a breakout or a situation with a sub where we can get work done with or without me. We will start the week by going over our notes on Mesopotamia and finish up our vocab. We will also go over our first essay test, which went very well for most students. If I cannot be at the school, everything that follows will shift to the right by one day. On Tuesday, we will go over our notes on the early religions and review for our next test. On Wednesday, we will start the brochure on Egypt which will take the majority of our class time. On Thursday, we will have our Code of Hammurabi writing assignment. If everyone finishes well before the end of class, we will go back to our brochure and finish that work. On Friday, we will have our test for these two sections. If the snow impacts the week, we will move the test to Monday and we will watch the first episode of the Bible Story from the History Channel.

I hope everyone had a great day off today and celebrated MLK day! This week will start off with a bang because the first thing we do is take our test. I give the entirety of the period for this purpose, especially since there is a essay element to this one. On Wednesday, we will be screening the historical documentary "The Story of US: Inventors". I'm doing this with nothing attached to it because most of my students will be away on their PBS field trip. On Thursday, we will begin our notes on Unit 1 Section 4, Empires. In this section will be discussing empires like Egypt and Mesopotamia. We will also begin our activity on Daily life in Egypt. On Friday, we will finish that work.
Hello students and parents! This is the first post of a weekly update on where we are at throughout the semester. I post our plan for the week here and any other information that I or the school deems to be important. For this week, we will start official business of discussing data and why it is important for providing the best education we can for each student. We will also take a group photo of our honor roll students. We will create our own cave paintings as well as define our vocabulary words. On Tuesday we will discuss the importance of River Cultures and early kingdoms. We will also begin our DBQ on the Code of Hammurabi, which will last until Friday and includes not only the history of Hammurabi's laws but also activities along the way. On Thursday, the Honors Breakfast will take place that morning in 1st period. When that event is over, we will review for our test that will happen on Tuesday (22JAN19). On Friday, the students will finish their work on the Code of Hammurabi. I will be absent that day for medical and logistical reasons (bloodwork at VA in Tuscaloosa and picking my wife up from the airport in Birmingham). If any of you have any questions about the class, please ask via remind if you have signed up for that or email, but email sometimes takes you through a filter and I do not always see those in a timely manner.
