Hey all, this week will start off with an e-learning day. My assignment for this day is to do about 30 minutes of research on your topic. On Tuesday, we will start our notes on Islam and we will do the same on Thursday. Wednesday will be a strange day due to the science fieldtrip. I will only see about 50% of my students on that day, so we will be watching a video on Islam that day. Friday will be dedicated to research and there might be an assignment to go along with your research on this day...make sure that you're ready for that by recording the sites, books, and articles that you're using for the project.

Hey all! This week we are going to start with notes on Christianity. There is a chance that we will close them out tomorrow, but most likely it will be Tuesday. On Tuesday, we will also learn about the history of Valentine's Day. We will also start our activity on the Spread of Christianity. Wednesday will be consumed with the same activity and on Thursday, you will have your test on Christianity. I will be absent from school on Friday and I am leaving you an activity on Black History. Several students have asked me about Black History Month, so I have made room for it and put together a number of activities that we will complete over the next couple of weeks.
This week in world history, we are going to start with our DBQ essay which will likely take up the entirety of the class. On Tuesday, we will have our Chapter 9 test followed by a quick lesson on how to cite sources in APA using a citation generator. Wednesday we will talk about the foundations of Christianity and on Thursday we will view the last episode that I will show this year of "The Bible". This one will focus on the miracles of Jesus. Friday will be another research day and throughout the week we will have ACAP Blitz work to do.
Hey all! I hope that you had a great weekend! We are going to start our week with our DBQ on the Fall of Rome. I will hold off on the essay for this DBQ until next week to give you a bit more time with it. We will have notes on the Roman Empire on Tuesday. We may or may not finish the notes out on the same day, but that is always a very conditional situation. On Wednesday we will return to the DBQ to give you another day to finish it. Thursday will be about APA writing. I will have some practice material for you, but we need to talk about citations and why they are so important in the academic space. Friday will be a research day...unless people choose to be disruptive. See you all tomorrow!
We are going to start the week off with notes on Roman Culture and take a look at these Roman Emperors, many of which were not so great while others were actually very successful. On Tuesday, I will hand out the research paper/project topic sheets and we will talk about the fundamentals of research and how to start. Wednesday is a PD day for teachers. Students may be assigned work from other teachers, but I only wish you to look over the topics and decide which ones interest you the most...pick 3-5. On Thursday, we will have our topic draft along with a few notes on Rome. Friday will be your first research day. These days have specific rules that I will lay out on Tuesday.
Hey all! First and foremost, I hope that you were able to enjoy MLK Day and I also hope that at some point today, you thought about the actual historical figure and appreciated his efforts to improve civil rights for all people in the United States.
On Tuesday, we will discuss our last assignment, "The Twelve Tables". We are going to discuss how you felt about some of those laws and compare them to our current laws and to other law codes, such as Hammurabi's Code of laws. We will also do a quick review for our test. We will start our notes on the Roman Empire on Wednesday and we will have our test on the Roman Republic on Thursday. On Friday, we will watch a very popular video on the destruction of Pompeii after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Friday will also be the day for laser tag for PBS. This week in world history, we are going to continue learning about the Roman Republic. We will start by finishing the work from the previous week on the Daily Life in Rome. We will begin the work on the Brochure for the Daily Life in Rome. On Tuesday and Thursday, we will work on the notes for the chapter. On Wednesday continue work on the Brochure and we will discuss Roman Law during the Roman Republic This will be supported on Friday by an activity on the Rules of the Roman Republic.
Throughout this week, we will continue to end the class with ACAP Blitz. It is imperative that you complete as many of these as possible, as they are graded. This last quarter was abysmal on work not being turned in. Ten students did not pass the last quarter and three failed the semester. 100% of this would have been prevented if they had simply turned all of their daily grade work in. You have a personal responsibility to your grades. Welcome back! I hope that your holiday went well! We are going to be going into our new material (The Roman Republic!) pretty soon, but we need to tie up a few loose ends from the last semester if we can. There will also be a few new wrinkles in this semester. With the ACAP test coming up in April, we will be introducing our ACAP Blitz strategy. You will see this in every classroom, but for history it is a pretty straight forward process that involves reading a couple of paragraphs each day from an article that I have chosen. The article will concern whatever subject matter we are covering, but often also relates to modern times. There will be a organization sheet that you are responsible for and that sheet is graded once the article is complete. I will give you more information on this tomorrow.
Also coming up this semester will be research papers! I know how excited you are to take on this beast of an assignment. The good news is that you are given a very long time to get these done. We will probably have our research paper draft in late January, but I will give you a draft sheet a week or so before this. This draft will be the moment where you pick your topic. No topic will be shared in one class, so if you classmate picks a topic such as "The Crusades", then that topic is removed for that particular class. I have four history classes, so I will only have four papers max on The Crusades. I hope that makes sense, but we will talk more about it when the time comes. We are also going to talk about lessons learned from this last semester, namely turning work in on time and completing more work. Every student that is failing my class right now, or students who did not get a very good passing grade, did so simply because they did not turn work in on time or at all. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING YOUR WORK IN. Stop asking your teachers if you can have "extra credit" if you are not willing to turn in the regular credit. We will discuss this further tomorrow. New seating will be assigned tomorrow as well. At the time that I am writing this, we are still having a regular school day tomorrow (Jan, 4th). If that changes, the county will let us know, so make sure to check in the morning to see if we are either closed or have a delayed start. If I had to guess, we are going to be there at 7:30am. See you soon! This week is all about our Checkpoint test and the mountain of make-up work that some of you need to turn in before you catch that "L". Our Quarter 2 checkpoint test will be on Tuesday! Please use the study guide that I posted on Friday to get ready for the test. Monday and Wednesday will be the days to attempt make-up work. Because the test on China went so poorly overall, students who are sub-70% for their class average by the end of the school day on Wednesday will take the test on Medieval Japan on Thursday. This is primarily to get test averages back up to a reasonable class average for tests and water down the results of the test on China.
Friday has been confirmed as a half-day of school. Students will remain in homeroom until 11:30 when car riders will be called for. Generally, all students are out by 12:00, but this is not always the case just due to the chaotic nature of the day. In my class, we will be listening to hard core blue-grass and 1950's country music...plan accordingly ;) Hey all! So, we are going to start the week by giving some time and effort to make-up work. Too many students are behind on classwork and testing. I will inform students what work is missing and if there is a dispute about what was turned in and what was not, we will look through the boxes. Just remember than 90% of the time, the work simply did not have a name on it or students thought they turned in the work, but it is actually at the bottom of their portable black holes (their backpacks). On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be learning about Ancient Japan. This will likely not take the entire class and what remains will be dedicated to make-up work. Friday we will go over the checkpoint test that will happen the 13th of December and any remaining time will be devoted to make-up work.
