Hey all! This week in art we will begin our journey into projects. The students will be given a theme and they will have complete creative control from there. They are allowed to use what ever medium they like, even if it is not something we worked with in class. I can provide charcoal, Conte Crayon, Pastel, Ink, and acrylic paint (to a certain extent). This week's theme will be "Fairy Tales". This is a very broad theme that encompasses a lot of stories, including Grimm, Mother Goose and even your run of the mill Disney stories. It should be a fun project. Along the way, we will discuss subjects like "can I borrow from other images?" and "is it ok to look at photos of people and draw them and if so, how do the photographers feel about this?". We will look at artist copyright law for guidance and they will be surprised about what they can and cannot do.
Hey all! I'm still out of town for tomorrow. I will be back on Tuesday and we are going to get into pastels. I have purchased two boxes of pastels with fee money, but we will still be a little short in my 4th period class. Some kids have told me that they actually have some pastels and will bring their own set, but if any of you are interested, Hobby Lobby and Michael's both sell a store brand pastel set. I don't think the price is too bad for either. We will be working on landscapes this week. Pastels are great for multiple subject matters, but they really excel in landscapes. I think the kids will really like them once we get started.
