The original plan to start Conte Crayon this week has been scrapped in favor of continuing our work with graphite. The reason for this change is that it makes more sense after working with human head features. We will do more work on the human body such as the torso, hands, arms, legs, back and feet. This said, students will be looking at the human body from an anatomy point of view. There will be no showing of the private body parts, but they will be drawing people (both men and women) who are wearing bathing suits. This progression will lead more naturally into Conte Crayon for the next lesson.

So, this week in art we will start drawing faces. We want to get the structure down right away so that we can start placing the parts down that we have been working on. The kids did a pretty good job this past week, especially on the ears. We are going to start with the mouth on Monday but quickly move to the outline of the face on Tuesday and really start drawing this in earnest on Wednesday. Our free day drawing will happen on Thursday this week due to our pep rally beginning during 4th period. Friday, we will spend time working on facial structure.
This week in art, we will finish up our final drawing for point perspective, which is a test grade. On Tuesday, we will start drawing parts of the human head (eyes, nose, ears, and mouth). We will be drawing the entire human head next week.
This week in Art we are going to be using one and two point perspective to accomplish our work. Perspective drawing is nice because it is rather simple as long as the students are willing to take their time, concentrate and take as great of care as possible when making their measurements. Examples of perspective drawings are numerous, but most of you will be the most familiar with Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper", but also drawings like the one below.
It's about to get messy in our art class. We're going to move into the realm of charcoal. We will be working on charcoal landscapes! The students will attempting simple landscape sketches and trying to keep their paper as clean as possible. If your student has an apron they can bring to help keep their clothes clean, they may wear it.
