This week in Art History, we will examine the art of landscape drawing. Landscape drawing takes a lot of planing and the execution of the use of several different drawing skills, including sketching, foreground knowledge and negative spacing. We will begin by simply examining other artists at work and move into our own attempts. I will demo a drawing for the class and they will work on their own landscapes as well.

This week in Art History will be cut short from the beginning due to the Solar Eclipse that will occur on the 21st. We will start strong on Tuesday by talking about how to hold the pencil and we will use that in practice and we draw a simple cylinder, along with tonal value. We will work on Negative spacing and we will use this in a simple still life drawing.
This week in Art History, we will begin our first drawing and it is a two day job. This drawing will take place with very little instruction as it is a measure of how much drawing knowledge the students have here at the beginning of this class. The still life being drawn will reappear at another time as a measure of how much these students have learned. We will have a work along day on Wednesday where the students will follow along with me and begin learning from most basic level. We will also learn how to hold our pencils in several new ways and we will have critique of our first works as well. This is just the first week of extremely trying classes for this year. All students need to have their own drawing pencils and sketch pads, so please get this done. Students who have not paid the fee after a certain point (still working on that) will need to exit the class and will be properly placed in another elective.
Welcome to Art History! In this class, we will explore art as a whole with a concentration on the most basic of art, drawing. We will discuss artists as well as the technique that they use to create their art. We also explore multiple other disciplines in art and will attempt multiple media types, such as acrylic paint, sculpture, photography and prints. I'm looking forward to this class and I hope you are as well.
